The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
