This Supernatural Story
Steven Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries with this nifty ghostly tale captured wholly through the eyes of the phantom. After a clan including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the camera – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The Black Phone
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective even without a sequel. Taking place in 1978 Denver, several disappearances has left the youth on edge. But the old telephone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with ghostly voices offering help, while the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. This Dramatic Portrait
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for greed in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals set about capitalizing on the American public's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain manages to present the character in a likable light. October 14th, late night, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
The current week's second offering by the same director presents a espionage tale as tight like the turtlenecks sported by Michael Fassbender's British agent. Both actors are masters of calm composure, so a delicious mental battle of fact versus fiction unfolds. The supporting cast join in the clever spy entertainment.
