Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
