Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
