Condemnation Explodes as Former President Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Spurs Widespread Backlash

Figures from both sides of the partisan aisle and the Hollywood world are uniting to denounce former President Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic deaths of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Brentwood home, Trump took to his platform to label the late director as "anguished and struggling". The post, he claimed Reiner's death was "because of the anger he provoked others through his massive, relentless, and untreatable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "raging obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the case. Reports indicate his bond was established at a substantial amount.

A Torrent of Criticism from Public Figures

The response to Trump's post was immediate and harsh.

This is a disgusting and despicable comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly criticized the statements. She referenced previous rhetoric from Trump about political violence, demanding, "Have you no decency? Can you get any worse?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "This is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now saying the Reiners caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from Within Political Ranks

A number of Republican lawmakers also expressed disapproval.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". Greene also alluded to struggles with substance abuse and psychological well-being within families.

Fellow GOP representative, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's discourse "unacceptable and disrespectful" considering the circumstances. He openly dared others in his political party to defend the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he argued Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule if Trump return to power.

"We see authoritarianism on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States fall, there’s a danger that democracy crumble around the world."

Despite his pointed criticisms, Reiner had in the past expressed "complete revulsion" and condemned political violence without reservation after the shooting of a different political figure.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Providing a element of past connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's request for "a specific hair product" as posing on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
