Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
